Copyright

First off, considering the fact that I did not know much about copyright laws in the first place, most of these notes we were given in class were new to me. But, if I had to choose one point to write about, I would venture to say that the fair use policy was something that I definitely did not previously know about.

Fair Use is a positive defense against charges of infringement, and one can only evoke Fair Use when you are charged with copyright infringement. The four components to Fair Use are: the nature of the work, the purpose of reproduction, the amount reproduced, and the effect on the copyright holder's wallet.

Now Fair Use is a good policy, but I stand on the side of the copyright holder because if somebody uses your work without permission there is no excuse they should either have to give you the credit or pay you the damages. The person being charged with infringement might say that they were not going to reproduce the copyrighted work, or that they did not know that by taking one, two, or three lines from an article or song that it was considered copyright infringement. But, in the end if you didn't write the work, cite the work.

Hatch Tips

I enjoyed a couple things from Joe Hatch's presentation or lesson to our class. The first would be the fact he told us about how windows computers store more random information than macs do, which in turn causes them to run slower. I was happy that he told us how to fix that small problem on our computer by using the defragmenter as well. The final tip i used from his notes was connecting my personal laptop to the trinity network. That was something I had been trying to do since my freshman year, but couldn't figure it out, but now i am able to do all my homework from the comfort of my dorm room (and that is great!!). Mapping my computer to the network was the only tip from his presentation that I have used.JAlexan3@trinity.edu

Jonathan's Introduction

My name is Jonathan Alexander and I am from San Antonio, Texas. My family originated in northern Mississippi about 32 miles outside of Memphis, Tennesse. My mother, Yovonda Alexander, is an analyst for a company named SRA International, and my father, Johnny Alexander, is a car salesman at Mercedes-Benz. For as long as I can remember, sports has been the main drive in my life, basketball is my favorite sport, but i was never truly gifted in the game. However, when it came to football I was just naturally successful so from pop warner on, I punished people on the field better known as the gridiron. I was a three year starter for my varsity football team and my senior year we advanced to the state playoffs for the first time in four years. Unless your from San Antonio, Texas, most people would not know that I was a well reknowned athlete at my school as well as in my district. Receiving a first team all-district nomination my senior year was the icing on the cake for a year that could be defined as dream-like. I was also a captain my senior year, and set three school records in the weightroom. When referring to computers, I received a broad and extensive amount of training in high school on both PC's and Mac's, however, I have not done anything with a computer other than write a paper since I left high school. Therefore, I would venture to say that it will take me a nice amount of time to get everything to come back to me. My email is JAlexan3@trinity.edu
